Aim
To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a side loader truck.
Elements
The course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:
2.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98 and LOLER 98.
2.2 Operators Safety Code.
2.3 Daily inspection.
2.4 Hydraulic systems.
2.5 Safe operating practices.
2.6 Engineering principles.
2.7 Starting, stopping, steering and simple manoeuvring.
2.8 Operation of hydraulic controls, weight assessment and handling laden and unladen pallets.
2.9 Vehicle loading and unloading.
Knowledge
On competion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:
3.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98 and LOLER 98.
3.2 Operators Safety Code and practices.
3.3 Daily inspection procedures.
3.4 Hydraulic systems and engineering principles.
3.5 Assessment of weights.
Skill
On completion of training the candidate will be able to:
4.1 Carry out daily inspections including battery care.
4.2 Operate a side loader truck safely complying with the operators safety code.
4.3 Load and unload vehicles safely and stack loads correctly.
