Aim
To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a lift truck.
Elements
The course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:
2.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98 and LOLER 98.
2.2 Pre-use checks on both loader and carrier vehicle.
2.3 Factors affecting stability and mobility.
2.4 Motive controls.
2.5 Hydraulic controls.
2.6 Operating in open and confined areas.
Knowledge
On competion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:
3.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98 and LOLER 98.
3.2 Pre-use checks on both loader and carrier vehicle.
3.3 Factors affecting stability and mobility.
3.4 Positioning of carrier vehicle in varying locations.
Skill
On completion of training the candidate will be able to:
4.1 Manoeuvre and operate the crane safely and efficiently.
4.2 Site and crane safely.
4.3 Stack and destack at various levels in a safe and competent manner.
4.4 Carry out all pre-use checks and running checks of the carrier vehicle, lifting appliance and relevant attachments.
4.5 Carry out battery maintenance and charging procedures.
4.6 Manoeuvre the carrier vehicle into position in order to carry out the lifting of various loads.
4.7 Load and unload from scaffolding.
4.8 Set up carrier vehicle ot carry out lifts from minimum to maximum radius.
4.9 Secure various loads on the vehicle bed in accordance with industry practices.
